As an enthusiast of Compton organs, I am keen to not only see instruments built from scratch by Compton but also those by other builders which were rebuilt and St Cuthbert's contains a good example of this.

The organ here today was originally built in 1904 by Norman & Beard where it replaced an earlier instrument. It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1933 by Compton's. During this rebuild, the choir division was moved from the north chancel and installed in its own enclosed chamber opposite in the south chancel. Unusual for Compton, the console is attached and forms part of the north chancel casework.
