In 1971 the remains of the Compton Organ Company Ltd were acquired by Mr J Pilling of Rochdale. For the first few years the company produced instruments using the Compton electrostatic technique of sound production and were called 'Compton Makin'. The Compton name was dropped by the mid 1970s so this gives an idea of how old this instrument is. The organ also features a rotofon speaker.
