Compton were perhaps most famous for their cinema organs.  They installed about 261 instruments in total between the late 1920s and 1939.  Athough many people refer to cinema organs as the 'mighty Wurlitzer' (in the same way as people sometimes refer to the vacuum cleaner as a 'Hoover'), there were more cinema instruments installed in British cinemas by Compton than any other builder.
