The history is fascinating. The first instrument was built in 1882 by Hill which they rebuilt in 1908. That instrument was then removed by Compton in 1960 to Great Yarmouth Priory where it still remains. The company then built this present instrument and is unique in being one of the few instruments - if not the the only instrument - which Compton built using 'Baroque' or 'Continental' voicing which was popular at this time. The company built a few electronic instruments with Continental voicing but this is believed to be the only Compton pipe organ with this spec and voicing.

In 1973 the organ was rebuilt by J W Walker and Sons and some minor tonal changes made to give the following specification:
