Compton did quite a lot of work rebuilding, cleaning and overhauling instruments originally built by other builders and one such example can be found at St Paul's Church in Burton-on-Trent.

The organ here has quite a history to it. It was originally built by Peter Conacher in 1874 for Central Methodist Church in Chesterfield. It was later enlarged in 1904 and an electric blower added in 1914. In 1936 it was rebuilt and enlarged by Abbott and Smith and in 1954, was cleaned and overhauled by the Compton.

The organ was installed here at St Paul's in 1985 where it replaced an instrument originally built by Robert Hope-Jones. Interestingly, a Compton built console was added by Michael Thompson. At Chesterfield the organ had a traditional drawstop console.
